All God's Dangers: The Life of Nate Shaw - Nate Shaw Review & Synopsis
Synopsis
A record of the personal struggles and determination of a Black tenant farmer born in Alabama in 1885
Review
"Extraordinarily rich and compelling."--The Washington PostNate Shaw's father was born under slavery. Nate Shaw was born into a bondage that was only a little gentler. At the age of nine, he was picking cotton for thirty-five cents an hour. At the age of forty-seven, he faced down a crowd of white deputies who had come to confiscate a neighbor's crop. His defiance cost him twelve years in prison. This triumphant autobiography, assembled from the eighty-four-year-old Shaw's oral reminiscences, is the plain-spoken story of an "over-average" man who witnessed wrenching changes in the lives of Southern black people -- and whose unassuming courage helped bring those changes about.
Simply God
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full—John 10:10 (NIV). Charles believed this scripture and yet saw the disparity between the promise of a full life and the lives that many—if not most—Christians lived. When discussing this paradox with other Christians, he became convinced that we tended to over think the promises of God and make Christianity much more complex than God intended. In his attempt to simplify the word of God, Charles became convinced that it simply takes knowledge of and belief in the five promised principles of God in order to live the full kingdom life God intends for his people. In this book, Charles shows the five principles and the overwhelming promises connected to them; he also warns of roadblocks which often prevent us from fully receiving all the Father has for us in Jesus—the one who can do infinitely more than all we can ask or imagine according to the power that is working among us (Eph. 3:20, NIV).

Precious Moments in Hell
The world is full of tragedy. No one is exempt from having times when they feel like giving up on life because of pain and misery, “hell on earth.” Author and survivor Charli’s memoir reminds readers to never give up on themselves for the Lord is in the midst of tumultuous events. He is always present in the form of a Precious Moment. Charli is one of the many people who have lived through soul-crushing pain. Beginning when she was four years old, she witnessed the darker side of humanity firsthand, from a physically abusive father who abandoned the family to a neglectful mother. Living in foster care and enduring seven years of daily torture was no walk in the park for Charli and certainly didn’t lighten the burden she would have to bear later in life. Like never-ending torrential rain, Charli’s life threw one storm after another at her, namely the murder of her mother, the sexual victimization and abduction of her daughter, and the abuse from her husbands not unlike what her mother experienced decades prior. “There are valleys we each will walk through in this life. Some refer to them as hell on earth. Psalm 23 call them ‘valleys of shadows of death.’” This book is a testimony that can serve as a lamp onto your feet and a light onto your path.
This book will give hope to all who face valleys of adversity and darkness in this life, that through it all , God our Father, can and does heal the broken hearted. Charli's true life story is an impactful example what was meant for evil ..."
The Thirst of God
"There is a rich tradition of wonderful women and other contemplatives who are great resources for thinking differently about Christianity. They emphasized divine love, human compassion, and the radical possibilities of contemplative practices. They were not afraid to criticize the church and indeed thought of their challenge as crucial to their faith. We do not have to lose faith with the beautiful wisdom of this story of intimate and compassionate love, dwelling among us and within us, if we do not want to." —from the acknowledgments and note to readers To those seeking a more open, progressive approach to Christian faith, the Christian past can sometimes seem like a desert, an empty space devoid of encouragement or example. Yet in the latter years of the Middle Ages a quiet flowering of a more accessible, positive approach to Christian belief took place among a group of female mystics, those who emphasized an immediate, nonhierarchical experience of the divine. In this enlightening volume, Wendy Farley eloquently brings the work of three female mystics—Marguerite Porete, Mechthild of Magdeburg, and Julian of Norwich—into creative conversation with contemporary Christian life and thought. From alternatives to the standard, violent understandings of the atonement, to new forms of contemplation and prayer, these figures offer us relevant insights through a theology centered on God's love and compassion. Farley demonstrates how these women can help to refresh and expand our awareness of the depth of divine love that encompasses all creation and dwells in the cavern of every human heart.
Which glorious countenance of the godhead filled all heaven with joy and bliss.”27 Better than any gifts is the intimate love of this great lord, who gladdens his friends with feasting and music. For Julian, even the image of God as a ..."
The Oneness and Simplicity of God
That YHWH is numerically one is foundational to the theology of the Hebrew Bible. Christian theologians historically have affirmed that there is a more fundamental type of oneness attributable to God. God is one not merely in the sense of being the only God, but also in the sense of being simple or non-composite, having no parts of any kind. In this way, God is said to be an absolute unity. After a consideration of all the evidence, Barry D. Smith reaches the conclusion that there is no basis for ascribing simplicity to God. The simplicity doctrine is not found in Scripture and the traditional arguments used to establish it are unconvincing. In addition, the recent defenses of the simplicity doctrine prompted by Alvin Plantinga's work Does God Have a Nature? are unsuccessful. It should not be thought, however, that the rejection of divine simplicity means that by default God must be conceived as composite, not even as a perfect composite with maximally great, God-making properties. Rather, there is a third option: God should not be conceived as either simple or composite. The question of in which mode God has attributes or exemplifies properties should be set aside.
accidental and participated existence.106 Of all the types of compositeness that are denied of God , this is the most controversial since it is thought to be an equivocation to call existence a predicate, insofar as, unlike other ..."

The 24 Hour Plays Viral Monologues

God In Our Midst
In relishing and taking full advantage of the room the biblical text leaves for the imagination, Trevor Dennis has produced a beautifully crafted collection of poetry and prose that releases the power of the gospel story afresh. Not only does he pay careful heed to the women of the Gospels, he also seeks to enter into the minds of those 'on the other side' in material written from the perspective of Pilate, 'the Jews' and someone who is fighting against the uncomfortable truths of Good Friday.
Then he started talking about 'the kingdom of God ', and it got more interesting still. Our family were in fishing. The Romans told us the Sea of Galilee belonged to them and everything in it. Even named it the Sea of Tiberias after the ..."
You Only Think God Is Silent
We all have those moments where we encounter pain, grief, and struggles and wonder why God would allow this. We have heard those semitheological platitudes about our struggles and questions. Author Julie Ann Allen experienced those when her husband of fourteen years was buried alive on a work site. Julie Ann learned what it was to stand at a crossroad generated by tragedy and make a choice. That moment was a defining moment in her life. She could either ignore God and blame him for the tragedy or rely on God to sustain her, transform her, and reconstruct her life as she passed through this profound tragedy. Julie Ann writes about Gods voice, provisions, and how she eventually chose divine happiness by the hand of God. If you have ever asked any of these questions, Where was God? Why did God allow this? Why cant I hear God? then reading You Only Think God Is Silent is a wonderful place to discover ways you can turn to God and hear the answers to those questions.
I learned to not do it all myself. I don't continually say, “I can do it.” In fact, I gladly look around now to find those near me who God has equipped with graces, gifts, and talents, and I ask for their help."

DISCOVER YOUR BEING IN GOD
The mayority of the human beings go throught the stage decesive of purpose; freedom; call; work; and direction in each one of the lives; stage during which unfortunately many follow their own will; some are overtaken by the responsabilities and the trend; while some others deviate themselves from the perfect will of God the Lord; for their lives; a great number of individuals are conformed to the day to day waiting for what would come. However; exist people in whose internal being is burning the will and the call of God for their lives; people to which God mades a call “Because God is the one that in yourselves produce the want or the will as the doing; for his good will.” (Phil 2:13). Is necessary to respond to God compromising with God to obey to his voice and then God would respond with the accomplishment of his voice; meanwhile of his word which is the will of God with the life of each believer “In what you would offer over my althar corrupted bread. And you said: ¿In what we had dishonored you? In thinking that the table of Jehovah is despreciable.” The time of assuming the service and the call from God is today; God is talking to you and is calling you the time is now. (Rom 13:11).
God's is the Glory. All God promised to all those who believe God. 2. It constituted also; in conclusion; It is our prayer. a form of praise and gratitude the best form of asking God is praising; It should begin it is the best middle of ..."

The Bible Delusion: 101 'Hang On A Minute' Moments; And God's Mysterious Ways
"The Bible Delusion: 101 'Hang on a Minute' Moments; and God's Mysterious Ways" comprises an easy to read summary of 101 examples of absurdity in the King James Version of the Bible, dismantling everything from the Genesis creation myth to the coherency of The Gospels. More aspects are categorised into groups that are anything but 'godlike' in their nature. The Bible is full of bizarre rules, regulations and instructions - on animal sacrifice, war, including genocide and ethnic cleansing, misogyny, slavery, and much more - straight from God. There are numerous contradictions, anomalies, anachronisms and oddities, many of which are explored and explained in this comprehensive work.
God doesn't explain why any of this has been commanded or what difference it makes either way. Apparently, there was an old prophet at Bethel whose sons went and told what the man of God had done. Someone often has to run and tell the ..."

Meanwhile, Detective Peter Whitlock, Eddie Walker's older bother, is still determined to find the person(s) responsible for his brother's condition. As an unrelated investigation leads to another woman who is involved in the accident, the responsible parties must decide whether they will keep their dark secrets, or tell the truth and let God decide the outcome.

Render Unto God
What marks, principles, and values from our study of Jesus can guide our reflections about the church and its witness in a world of economic injustice? What kinds of principles ought to be part of an ecclesiology in a world where family violence is epidemic? So asks author James Poling in his exploration of the role of faith and religious practice as a resource for those who are economically vulnerable to domestic violence. In this groundbreaking work, Poling focuses his research on women and children in working-class and poor communities of three cultures, analyzing the forces that define and sustain economic vulnerability and detailing how such vulnerability affects the daily lives of people within these communities. He looks at how the church can function as a source of healing and empowerment for persons who are trapped by domestic violence and economic vulnerability and develops models for prevention of violence and of practical ministry for pastoral care of the victims and perpetrators.
The following confession from the Taizé Community is appropriate for those persons who are powerful: Leader: I confess to God, and in the presence of all God's people, that I have sinned in thought, word, and in deed, and I pray God to ..."

Living in the House of God
“How should we live in this house of God? We know that the way a building is shaped also helps in determining the way those within it live and relate. We are indeed formed by what we form. Qualities such as integrity, hospitality, humanity and beauty in a place will enable its dwellers to live lives in which such qualities are evident. The way we understand who we are and how we live will be reflected in our places and vice versa. Our places become bearers of meaning and memory.” —From Chapter 1In Living in the House of God, Margaret Malone draws on her study of and research on the Rule of Saint Benedict to show the ways in which this ancient rule can illuminate modern life. The broad gamut of topics this book examines—from Benedictine life as sacrament to Augustine’s influence on Benedict to obedience and the art of listening, among others—is itself a witness to the generous flexibility of the Rule, as Benedict proposes a way of life that truly corresponds to the deepest needs of the whole of human nature.
So in Christ, above all , God's life was made visible to us. We need, however, to affirm that all reality is, both potentially and in fact, a bearer of God's presence and an instrument of divine action on our behalf."

God's Love WIns ALL
God's Love Wins All is a Biblical fact. Jesus declared, "he [his Father] is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil" - Lk. 6:35. This is but an amplification of the preceding argument. If God loves his enemies, he certainly loves all men; for no one doubts that he loves his friends. Can God cause those to be endlessly miserable whom he loves if love's nature works no ill toward us? God's love is remedial in every way. God is Love and all loving - 1 Jn. 4:8, Rev. 13:10. This is why He can even love His Enemies - Matt. 5:44. Scripture teaches that God loves all people everywhere with an unfailing love - John 3:16.

Life can be difficult. But does God care? Don Moen has learned to lean on God’s promises in good times as well as bad and he says, “You can still trust Him.” “A person would need to look a long time to find a purer heart and voice than those of Don Moen.” —Max Lucado In his new memoir featuring snapshots from his life and career, Don shares heartfelt stories of gentle comfort for people looking for answers. Don asserts, that God has not forgotten us even when… We face a job loss We go through an unexpected divorce We receive a bad report from the doctor We face the death of a loved one As a beloved songwriter and worship leader, Don Moen is the author of classic songs like “Thank you, Lord” and “God Will Make a Way”— the inspiration for this book. He knows what it means to feel anxious, worried, and down. And he knows what it means to persevere and see a new day. All God Worshippers Are Mad
"All God Worshippers Are Mad: a little book of sanity" seeks to demonstrate in a logical and common sense manner that the fundamental beliefs held by all monotheists are incomprehensible and lunatic. The method employed is to take the obscurantist vocabulary of monotheism and translate it into plain language. In doing so, the book attempts to show that god worshippers themselves do not understand the things they claim to believe and by which they live their lives. For the reader who believes in god, this polemical little volume may help them to understand why secularists get so frustrated and infuriated when in debate with god worshippers. For the secularist, this book is a reminder that not everyone is susceptible to reasoned argument. The reminder is a timely one. A clear understanding of the irrationality of monotheism is something which matters urgently when confronted by the global rise of religious fascism. What is said in this little book will no doubt be found impolite and overly-provocative by those authoritarian people within the politically correct establishment who conflate morality with niceness. They will probably utter the familiar refrain that we ought not to denigrate other people's deeply and sincerely held beliefs. Instead we should live in a permanent state of apology for the crime of having minds of our own. But religions are no more above criticism than any other ideologies. They have no entitlement to a privileged status. Besides which, large numbers of god worshippers feel free to denigrate and insult everyone else's deeply and sincerely held beliefs, so why should they have special permission to be hypocrites? Topics covered: 01. God 02. Prayer 03. Worship 04. God the Infinite 05. Immortality and Heaven 06. Soul / Spirit 07. Salvation 08. Faith 09. Spreading The Word 10. Theocracy 11. Theocracy and Nuclear Armageddon 12. God, Guilty of Genocide 13. Religion and Morality are Mutually Exclusive 14. God worship is Immoral 15. God worship is Obscene 16. Everything is God's Fault 17. If it's in The Book, then it Must be True 18. Claiming Incomprehensible Beliefs 19. Is Islamism the New Fascism? 20. The Moderates

The Gift for All People
The Gift for All People is a celebration of God's gift of salvation wrapped in a collection of inspirational stories. These stories will help Christians comprehend and treasure the assurance of their salvation and will help non-Christians realize and embrace the gift of abundant, eternal life in Jesus Christ. The concluding story, written especially for this book, urges readers to give their lives to Jesus Christ and shows them how to do so. This book will provide Christians with a unique, warm, and attractive presentation of the gospel to give to non-Christian family or friends. More than anything, God wants you to be with Him. The God who designed your world, the God who placed you on the planet, simply wants you home with Him. And to bring you home, He offers you a gift...the gift of eternal salvation. My prayer is that through the pages of this book you'll see his gift like you've never seen it. If you've already accepted it, you'll thank Him again. And if you've never accepted it, I pray that you will. For it's the gift of a lifetime. A gift for all people.
These stories will help Christians comprehend and treasure the assurance of their salvation and will help non-Christians realize and embrace the gift of abundant, eternal life in Jesus Christ."

Suffering and the Christian Life
This volume approaches questions concerning the status and meaning of suffering in Christian life and Christian theology through the lens of a variety of theological disciplines – biblical, historical, practical, political and systematic theology. Scholars from this range of fields concentrate on a number of questions: Is love intrinsically linked with suffering? Are suffering and loss on some level fundamentally good? How is – and how should – suffering and diminishment be viewed in the Christian tradition? Featuring leading voices that include Linn Tonstad, Bernard McGinn, Anna Rowlands, John Swinton and Paul Murray, this volume brings together essays touching on concrete issues such as cancer, mental health, and the experience of refugees, and discusses broad themes including vulnerability, kenosis and tragedy. In correlating these themes with the examination of texts ranging from Paul's letters to works of the Cappadocians, Thomas Aquinas, John of the Cross and Mother Teresa, Suffering and the Christian Life offers fresh and accessible academic approaches to a question of vital personal, existential significance.
